HOTEL FACILITIES

Outdoor / Indoor Pool Colleagues have complimentary use of our beautiful Health Spa! This includes a small work-out facility, outdoor pool. (Just call ahead to make sure it’s not to busy with our guests). Offered at reduced colleague rates you can enjoy golf, tennis, boating, mountain bike rentals, horseback riding, ski hill passes, and more!


 

STAFF ACTIVITY FEE

The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has a Staff Activities Committee who organizes events for colleagues such as skydiving, white water rafting, road trips to hockey games and the West Edmonton Mall, Canada Day events, and much more…. Colleagues are subject to a $25 non-refundable activity fee which goes towards subsidizing events.

ACCOMMODATION

The Sir Henry Thornton VillageThe Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge has two types of accommodation on site to offer to our colleagues; dormitory style and also apartment living. To qualify to reside in our staff accommodation you must meet the legal drinking age in Alberta, which is 18, if you do not meet this age requirement, you will need to arrange for alternate accommodation.

 

LAUNDRY FACILITIES

The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge provides staff laundry facilities so you may launder your personal clothing. In the dormitory accommodation area there are two coin-operated laundry facilities equipped with washers and dryers. The cost is $1.25 per load. In Sir Henry Thornton Village there are laundry rooms located in every second building, the cost is also $1.25 per load.

STAFF WORK-OUT FACILITY
Now our colleagues can stay healthy and fit by using our staff work-out facility. With 24 hours access, it is ideal for people who work at all hours of the day! The gym includes free weights, Universal, step machines & more. Proceeds from our memberships will contribute to new equipment and on- going improvements to the gym!

Current Membership prices are:
$30- 3 month membership
$50- 6 month membership
$80- 1 year membership

Staff dormitoryDormitory accommodation is based on
2-person occupancy with rent being approximately $130pp month.
Damage Deposit: remains $75.

Cable & Internet (Optional): Additional $30 each per month.

The rooms are approximately 15 feet by 15 feet and are furnished with two beds, two dressers, two chairs, a table, lamps. Bed linen is available to those who wish to sign it out (pillow, pillow case, sheets, blanket and bed spread), we however do not provide towels. Common washrooms consisting of separate toilet and shower stalls are located on each floor as well as telephones. There are no cooking facilities in the dorm rooms therefore The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge provides a staff cafeteria which is open for three meals each day.

Typical accommodation  in the staff quarters.Sir Henry Thornton apartment village features fully furnished single and two-bedroom apartments, complete with kitchens and bathrooms. Apartments are furnished with a bed and dresser in each room, kitchen table and chairs, a couch, end table and coffee table – everything else will be the responsibility of the tenant (cutlery, TV, etc.)
One-Bedroom $510/month Damage Deposit: remains $400.
Two-Bedroom $682/month Damage Deposit: remains $600.

Water, Heat & Hydro included in rent
Cable (Optional): Additional $30 per month

All damage deposits must be paid upon arrival to residence.

Cable, water, heat & hydro are all-inclusive in the rent.

CAFETERIA – “The Bean”

There are no cooking facilities in the dorm rooms therefore The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge provides a staff cafeteria which is open for the three meals each day of the year. Currently the price of each meal is approximately $4. Colleagues can pay for each meal or purchase a meal card ($50-$77). Our staff cafeteria has a salad bar complete with freshly cut fruit and vegetables, cold meats and salads. Also offered are two hot entrees, a vegetarian dish, beverages and desserts.

INTERNET ACCESS:

Renovations are currently underway to provide high speed internet access to our dorm rooms. We have also set up an Internet Cafe specifically for our colleagues . Located in our staff area the Internet Cafe is free for all colleagues and is open daily from 8am - 11pm. A great way to stay in touch with friends and family or just surf the net!

WORK SCHEDULES:

Hours of work are varied: days and hours of work will fluctuate in accordance with staffing and business levels, therefore we cannot guarantee hours. You should be mindful to budget accordingly for time periods when hours of work may be minimal. As the hotel operates 24 hours a day, shifts may include mornings, afternoon, evenings, nights and split shifts. Days off could be any days of the week, not necessarily weekends.

UNIFORMS:

The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge supplies one uniform to each colleague, we also look after cleaning the uniform for you; when the uniform becomes soiled you can exchange it for a clean one. Colleagues of The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge are required to wear safety shoes at work. We will provide you more information on these shoes upon a job offer.

GROOMING POLICY:

Creating a lasting positive impression is an expectation of all The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge colleagues. Impeccable dress, good manners, and professional behaviour are essential components to ensuring guest satisfaction and repeat business. A well groomed, professional image tells our guests you take pride in your work and appearance.

Personal Hygiene
Personal hygiene is important. Daily baths, showers, shaving, and use of deodorant are essential in providing a professional image. Teeth should always be clean, and fresh breath is imperative. Strong aftershave lotion or colognes can be offensive to our guests. They should be worn in moderation.

Hair

  • Hair must be clean and neatly combed, allowing for eye contact at all times.
  • Coloured or tinted hair must appear natural and be well maintained.
  • Hair must be conservatively styled. Extreme (e.g. asymmetrical, bi-level etc.) styles are unacceptable.
  • Heads partially shaven, logos, geometric patterns, or designs in the hair are not permitted.
  • Gels, sprays, and hair mousse may be used conservatively.
  • Colleagues in food service areas must comply with health department regulations.
  • Males: Hair must not extend over the collar and must be neatly trimmed around the collar and ears. Brush cuts must be no shorter than a #2 clipper.
  • Females: Long hair must be restrained. Conservative barrettes, combs, headbands, clips and bow/ribbons may be worn, if complementary to hair and uniform.
  • Cornrows (or more than 2 braids) or dreadlocks are not acceptable hair styles.
  • Wigs may be worn if the above conditions are met.

Facial Hair

  • Men are required to shave daily, immediately before their shift. Neatly trimmed beards and moustaches, of conservative style, are permitted if they are fully-grown (must be grown during a vacation or other non-working period).
  • Neatly trimmed beards and goatees are permitted if fully grown. Beards must be no longer than a #2 clipper.
  • Moustaches are permitted but must not extend beyond the corner of the mouth or top of lip.
  • Soul patches are not permitted.
  • Sideburns must be neatly trimmed, and must not extend below the bottom of the ear. They must be of a conservative style, flares or muttonchops are unacceptable.

Jewellery

  • Conservative jewellery may be worn in moderation, but may not detract from the uniform or business attire.
  • Necklaces may not be visible on uniformed colleagues.
  • Necklaces of hemp, shell and wooden beads are not acceptable for non-uniformed colleagues.
  • Jewellery will not be allowed where it might cause a safety hazard, for example around mechanical equipment.
  • Ankle bracelets and visible body piercing (e.g. tongue, nose, eyebrow, etc.) are not allowed.
  • Females:May wear small studs or hoop earrings (no larger than a quarter). One pair is permitted - with one earring in each ear in the lower lobe. Earrings should be close to the ear - post or clip-ons are acceptable, large or dangle earrings are unacceptable.
  • Males: Are not permitted to wear earrings while on duty. Please contact the Human Resources Director regarding those colleagues who have received "grandfathering" consideration.
  • No more than one bracelet or watch on each wrist. Watches should be appropriate in style to look professional, for example a sports watch is suitable for fitness colleagues whereas a dress style watch would be appropriate at the Front Desk.

Accessories

  • Uniformed colleagues may only wear accessories issued as part of the uniform. Items such as belts with designs, hats, headbands, and bandannas are not permitted.
  • Sunglasses are not to be worn indoors, in dark areas or at night. Prescription sunglasses may be worn only when necessary, but must not be mirrored, silver-coated or opaque. Lens must be such that the eye can be seen through the lens. Frames should be conservative in style and colour. Whenever possible, we ask that out of courtesy for our guests and colleagues, please remove your sunglasses when speaking with them and refrain from putting the glasses on your head when they are not in use.
  • Jasper Park Lodge issued hats must be worn if they are required for health and safety reasons, or if they are part of a prescribed uniform.
  • A maximum number of two pins may be worn with the uniform. No unauthorized pins are allowed. Jasper Park Lodge authorized pins include Long Service, Train the Trainer, Service Plus, Enviro Pin, Fire Brigade, St. John's Ambulance, AHMA, ATEC, CMP and Concierge Gold Key. On occasion, the General Manager will authorize the wearing of a designated pin in recognition of an in-house group or to reflect a special occasion or event.
  • Tattoos must not be visible.
  • Combs, wallets, or the large objects should not be visible or carried in pockets.
  • Hosiery must be worn at all times and be in good repair, of a neutral colour and coordinated with the uniform or business attire.
  • Females: Must wear sheer or opaque stockings when mandatory. Extreme colours, patterned or textured hose, or hosiery trimmed with decorations are unacceptable.
  • Males: Must wear colour-coordinated socks.

Cosmetics

  • Hands and nails should be clean at all times. Nails should be neatly trimmed and should not extend more than 1/2 inch beyond the end of the finger.
  • Males: Are not permitted to wear nail polish.
  • Perfumes or eau de cologne must be discreet and worn with moderation.
  • Females: May wear nail polish which is well maintained, meets health and safety standards, and is of a neutral or conservative colour which complements the uniform or business attire.
  • Make-up should promote a professional well-groomed image. It should be used as an accent only and should be applied conservatively and complement normal skin tones. Extreme colours and/or excessive amounts of make-up are not permitted.

BENEFITS:

For our permanent colleagues who will be making a commitment of 3 months and longer, our benefit package will be offered to you. Benefit coverage includes provincial health care, supplemental heath, short-term disability, life insurance, vision care and a dental plan.

TRANSPORTATION:

Transportation to The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge is at your own expense. We suggest that if you are flying, to make your travel plans to arrive at the Edmonton Int’l Airport on the Saturday before you start working. We have a shuttle that will pick you up and bring you directly to the resort! More info will be provided to you upon a job offer. Throughout the year there are shuttles to and from the Jasper town-site, Tramway and Ski Hill for a minimal cost.

COLLEAGUE ORIENTATIONS:

For all new colleagues of JPL, we hold a full, 2-day orientation session, which provides invaluable information about our company and resort. You will go on a property tour, attend a luncheon, meet members of our Management Team, and learn all about living in Jasper National Park! Attendance is mandatory and there is a dress code (smart casual).
