Jasper gets northern lights from time to time and I got to capture these images up at Patricia Lake. The road was way too busy to avoid light pollution, but did manage to capture some images. Not as colorful as I had hoped, but I probably did not wait late enough. These were taken between midnight and two am.

The aurora can be seen best at this time, which is called magnetic midnight. In northern latitudes, the effect is known as the aurora borealis (or the northern lights), named after the Roman goddess of dawn, Aurora, and the Greek name for the north wind, Boreas, by Galileo in 1619.
